So I wasn't the first one to think about it. In fact, nor were half the students who now own Tablet PCs, Thomas Sargent probably beat most of us to it (you can view his advanced macro tablet pc notes... just don't ask me to decypher the handwriting).
I ordered a Toshiba M205-S810 Tablet PC yesterday from Amazon.com - they had a $200 rebate running so I thought I'd make the most of it! The Toshiba was highly recommended by a lot of people, both here at LSE among the people I work with at the Center for Learning Technology, as well as by Jacqueline who fearlessly told me that I'd end up buying it after ALL my research on a hundred different models. She was right on the money... :-)
After reading through Sargent's messy Advanced Macro notes, I figured that there was definitely a case for a Tablet - given my sheer obsession for mass disorganisation, a central notes locker might not be a bad idea. The only thing was that I have to shell out an extra 100+ dollars to ship it out from New York to London once it reaches my parents' home. Thats STILL cheaper than the 1500 pound price tag out here in London.
Well, thats it for now... will post photos when I get the machine.
Update: Machine has been shipped from Amazon - Free two day shipping. I went down to Oxford Street to check out Tablet PCs in the market, and found a demo of the one I just bought. It is SO funky! I was able to furiously scribble down fake notes and fake equations, and it pretty much (with a tiny delay) copied everything I was writing down. More than use it for Text Recognition, I will probably use it to actually take down my own handwritten notes in class, and save myself the torture of paper organisation :) I speak as if having to organise my files is like a prison sentence... but its as darn close as it gets to one!
